Project notes
Overview
An ongoing lab project using variable fonts as a motion material. Weight, width and optical size become parameters an animation — or a user — can play.
Challenge
Keeping expressive type legible and accessible while it moves.
Approach
A small toolkit that maps inputs (audio level, scroll speed, cursor distance) to font axes, with strict limits that keep text readable.
Process
Weekly sketches in code, published internally as a growing library of experiments.
Outcome
An open toolkit, forty motion studies and a set of rules for responsible kinetic type.
