Twelve minutes of night
Shot between midnight and dawn over six weeks, the film moves from the first bakery ovens to the last tram home — a portrait of a city’s other shift.
The city never really sleeps. It just changes shifts.
Project notes
Overview
A twelve-minute documentary following night-shift bakers, tram cleaners and lighthouse keepers. Shot entirely between midnight and dawn.
Challenge
Low light, no crew lighting allowed, and subjects who had never been filmed.
Approach
We shot with available light only and built the edit around sound — the hum of ovens, the hiss of trams — rather than interviews.
Process
Six weeks of nights. A two-person crew, a single lens and a lot of coffee.
Outcome
A short film, a stills series and an original score.
